Rock Star - Supernova Review
Carla Lynne Hall is our Featured Rock Star SuperNova Guest Reporter. Tuesday, July 19, 2006 What a night tonight for Elimination ..3 for Rock Star: Supernova. First up was the encore, which was Magni - with the sunglasses again? Isn't it a magician's rule never to repeat the same trick twice? He can sing, I'll give you that, and his intensity was good, but I'm just not sold on him. So the original Bottom Three from the end of last night's show was announced: Jenny, Dana, and Mr. Creedence Clearwater Revival, Ryan Star. When his name was added to the Bottom Three, also on national TV, snickers went around the audience. I don't know if any of this is pre-arranged or not, but I thought that Ryan getting added after he dissed Dana was a fun twist. At the end of the the vote, Zayra and Josh's names were added to the Bottom Three. The Final Bottom Three was Jenny, Dana, and Josh. Jenny Galt - Vasoline And did she? She did. This was the most energetic I've ever seen her, although her breath control could support her vocals better. Stagewise, she turned it up 10,000 notches. I kept thinking, "Where YOU been, Girl?! Where did this Jenny Galt come from?" Breath control issues aside, she rocked and twisted on stage. On my notepad I scribbled under Jenny "I have a feeling she'll make the cut." Dana - High Road Easy The other reason is that the kind of rock shows that Supernova will be doing will be SEVERELY limited by heels and miniskirts. Tommy Lee says that he wants someone who can be scary and/or fall off the stage. Well, the heels might help with the falling part, but then the miniskirt will find its way around your waist as you try to stand up. You break your heel, it's pandemonium. Not a look I'd suggest. Seriously, Dana said that she'd listen to Storm and Dilana's advice, and choose the things that worked. I get that too, but arena shows are a marathon, not a sprint. We're not talking about the singer/songwriter Jewel who can perform barefoot, and twirl if she wants to. We're talking about rocking out with Tommy, Gilby, and Jason. Wear stilettos at your own risk. I'm still not convinced she's ready. Josh - Heart Shaped Box So I was surprised that Josh made it to the Bottom Three. Last night was his best so far, I thought. He knows how to sing, but can he really bring it? To me, he walked around the stage. Josh, rock is not just about posing. But he got extra points for visiting Dana and Jenny in the Bottom Three area. At the end of the song, he gave a long rock growl. I'd like to see some of that earlier in the song, but that's me. Somehow Tommy Lee and the rest of Supernova have started calling Tommy "The Hatchet Man", since he gets to announce who's going home, and tonight it was Jenny Galt. Jenny rose above whatever other feelings she had to be feeling at that moment, and called this experience, "the best slap in the face I ever got". She added how the comment about her playing it safe had hit home, because she had always played it safe, in her life, in jobs, etc. "I'm going to carry this with me for the rest of my life." Another classy goodbye. Not a dry eye in the house. Well, not at mine anyway ;-) Farewell, Jenny Galt. Rock on!
